Salad & Dressing


We love salads. They’re not only good for you, but are easy to fix and can make a satisfying meal, appetizer, or side dish. It’s always good to have a few salad basics on hand because they keep well in the fridge, and will give you the start for a salad or sandwich on the spur of the moment. A head of firm romaine lettuce keeps especially well and will make a crisp foundation for your salad, along with a red onion or a bunch of scallions, a cucumber, head of celery or carrot which can all be chopped up, or grated, and folded into a salad. 

There are dozens of prepared salad dressings in the supermarket – including Wishbone Italian which was a childhood favorite of ours – but we’ve gotten accustomed to making our own. Don’t wince. It’s surprisingly easy and will give you a great salad dressing that is homemade (no processing and no additives) and will last a long time in the fridge. You won’t believe how good this vinaigrette salad dressing is! Here are a few of our secret sauces:
