Spicy Pork Meatballs

This recipe is from The Meatball Shop, one of our favorite spots in New York City’s Lower East Side. The shop offers about 30 varieties for sit down or takeout and this version is a standout .

ingredients

  • 1 Large spoon Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 Pound pork shoulder , ground or ground pork
  • 1 Generous pinch kosher salt and black pepper
  • 2 jarred hot cherry peppers , minced
  • 2 Large spoons hot cherry pepper pickling liquid
  • 2 slices fresh white bread , minced
  • 1 Egg

prep / directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Drizzle olive oil into a baking dish and coat evenly with your hands. Set aside. Combine the ground pork, salt and pepper, minced cherry peppers and liquid, bread and eggs in a large bowl and mix well. Then roll the mixture into round, golf-ball size meatballs with your hands. Place the balls in the prepared baking dish so they are touching one another. Roast for about 20 minutes until they are cooked through. Remove and let the meatballs cool for 5 minutes. Serve with our simple tomato sauce or with a dollop of good quality prepared sauce, warmed over.
